In 2009 Christopher Hutchison, then aged 17, fell under a train in Switzerland and lost both legs, one below the knee, and one above.
After Christopher’s surgery, prosthetic fitting and rehabilitation, the Hutchison family moved from Switzerland to Bulgaria, where in 2014 they decided to start the company.
In 1981, Alan Hutchison, Christopher’s father, had graduated from Oxford University and had worked on the development of something called the “Oxford Knee”, using so-called computer technology to measure the performance of the knee, figure out how it interacts with bone tissue, and more.
Watching Christopher get plaster casts on both legs to fit him for prosthetics and thought, “Hold on, in 1981, we were using computer technology to do this. Why is no one doing that today?”And that led to ProsFit.
When you face adversity, you have choices. And the father and son team made a choice to drive positive change. Christopher is now the Chairman and CTO of ProsFit, and Alan is the CEO.
In 2013 ProsFit’s founders made a commitment to radically improve prosthetic fitting. Their streamlined, cost-effective & scalable digital solution enables Distributed Care globally, with benefits for all.
With a resource-efficient business model, and manufacturing across the globe, costs are already 25% lower than 5 years ago, and below most traditional benchmarks, the target at that time.
In addition to improving cost-effectiveness, ProsFit’s solution is scalable, and allows the building of low investment, asset light, digitally enabled, easy to use patient care units both fixed and mobile. These can be deployed anywhere, even in remote & challenging environments, and any time, making Distributed Care a reality.
